The Japan Foundation held a lecture about Japanese modern literature at JF library on March 17. The lecturer, Prof. Yoshikazu Urata, visiting professor at Cairo University, talked about some famous Japanese literary legends, like Osamu Dazai, Atsuhi Nakajima, and also features & fascination of Japanese Modern Literature, especially Okinawan Literature. Prof. Ahmed Fathy moderated this lecture and translated Japanese into Arabic.

More than 55 participants learned and deepened understanding of Japanese modern literature and had an active Q&A session after the lecture. Prof. Urata gave answers to the questions regarding recommended Japanese books for Egyptians, his own feelings for Japanese great novelists, and many more.



Prof. Urata also mentioned some outstanding okinawan novelists, like Toshio Shimada, Shun Medoruma.

Medruma’s novel “Suiteki(Waterdrops)”  translated into Arabic by Dr.Ahmad Fathy is available at JF Cairo Library and book shops.
